Yuletide 2026 tag set

Well, the Yuletide 2026 tag set list has been released and there are 3 requests for Exiles / Galactic Milieu stories featuring Marc Remillard, Jack Remillard and Uncle Rogi Remillard.

That's good to hear and hopefully there will be some actual stories. It's a small fandom and this is not always guaranteed.

The Old Remillard Home located?

snaffled from r/JulianMay by ZiggerTheNaut:

This may not be news to anyone but after decades of rereading Julian May's books, and in particular rereading "Intervention: A Novel" currently, I found what appears to have been her model for The Old Remillard Home in Hanover, NH. This is the one Denis and Lucille move into to found their dynasty.

In the novel, the address is 15 east South Rd, Hanover, NH. Currently there is no home there BUT there is Maynard House at 17 South Rd which looks to be medical guest house, https://www.maynardhouse.org, but the look and feel screams The Old Remillard Home.

In the novel, the walking directions Uncle Rogi and The Family Ghost take when he's looking for a location for The Eloquent Page, matches it perfectly outside of the street number; east on South St, past Currier Place which took them near the Hanover Public Library, and east of there was, "a large white clapboard house with dark green shutters, a modest portico, and third-floor dormers..." which seems to match the picture of Maynard House almost perfectly, even in 2026.

Again, maybe this is old news but I only discovered it this morning after not being able to sleep :)

Duels

There was a question over at r/fantasy over the best duels and I mentioned the one between Aiken Drum vs Nodonn. I remember being on the edge of my seat as I read it. There's also the unexpected 'oof' scene in the epilogue when it turns out Marc was observing the duel with his farsense.

If you think that Nodonn could be Marc's ancestor like I do, it gives things an extra tragic twist.

Day 30: Would You Like to See ~~Modern B7 Remake?~~ Film or TV version?

I would love to see the Exiles / Milieu books televised, one season for each book. It's a nice dream to have (with no AI involved, only actual human beings).

Day 28 - Favourite Quote

“They say nothing!" the little captain raged. "They only putrid gunner, ship engineer. I, Ba-Karkar, must speak for all!"

Ogu kicked him again. "Then ask what kind help Asahel wants, untranslatable epithet male. Or no more untranslatable for you! Never again in putrid boomer prison."

Her husband gave a choked gasp. "Cruel female!"

"No more sex, either," she added.”

Day 27 - Favourite Scene

When Unifex visits Denali and remembers his time with Elizabeth, starting with how he made her laugh before they departed for the Duat Galaxy. Despite the odds, I think they made each other happy.

From the first page when a living spaceship was mentioned. I was intrigued straight away.

Day 22 - Favourite ~~Audioplay~~ Book Cover

This is a tricky one because Stephen Bradbury did the beautiful covers for the Exiles / Galactic Milieu books as well as The Rampart Worlds trilogy. Michael Whelan also did great covers for the Exiles series.

I think I'll choose 'Sagittarius Whorl' (the third book of The Rampart Worlds trilogy). It's dramatic and gives the impression that everything's On Fire (well, I am an Aries, a fire sign).

Day 21 - Favourite ~~Fanon~~ / Headcanon

- After reading Rogi's memoirs, Hagen and Cloud spend more time with Rogi and Elaine (who both get married) and bring their kids along to visit the bookshop as well.

- There's an expedition to the Duat galaxy - I think Kuhal knew the location because as a prince he would have been taught details when he was young. A Remillard or two find a reason to come along.

- Cloud and Kuhal have another child - but it's a Firvulag (this would really put the cat amongst the pigeons).

- Marc realises that Elizabeth is mentally suffering from being unplugged from the Unity for so long and says out of kindness for her, 'let's Unify if it will make you feel better'. He doesn't mind because it's just with her, not instantly with thousands of others he doesn't know or care about (which his ego would have disliked). This is how they both eventually become the Duality that Creyn saw in a vision given to him.

- When Marc and Elizabeth do metaconcerts together, he sometimes lets her borrow his power to lift objects (in canon she had regretted that power being weak).

I did like the beautiful golden (I think) dress that was made for Katlinel by some of the Howlers who were talented at sewing.

The scene at the end of Intervention when spaceships from the Galactic Milieu start appearing in the skies over New Hampshire. If these books are ever televised, I would love to see that scene on a screen.

Day 18: Favourite ~~Liberator Moment~~ Spaceship

Brede's Ship, a living spaceship that carried the Tanu and Firvlag peoples to Earth in one hyperspace jump from its own galaxy, before perishing. I've always been fascinated with living spaceships and this one did its best to the end.

Day 17: Two Characters You Wanted to Get Together That Never Did

Elizabeth and Creyn - he cared for her and would have done his best to make her happy. As she gained more authority he was fine with this and hadn't felt threatened (a plus in my book).

Day 15 - Character Who Didn't Get Enough Screen Time

Marie Remillard, the younger sister of Marc. She was a writer and publisher, pretty and smart enough to avoid anything to do with Mental Man. I would have liked to see more of her life.

Day 14 - Character You Relate To the Most

Uncle Rogi - when he realised he had psi powers along with his twin brother, he turned to sci-fi / fantasy books for advice - I would have done that too. He was happy running his bookshop and didn't want to be involved in the corporate world / politics like many of his relations. He didn't go looking for trouble and loved cats.

Day 11 - Best SFX / Most Woeful Use of SFX

Well, the only example available is the animated trailer for the movie / TV series that never happened. I do love the trailer (it inspired me to write a fan fic) so I will conclude that all of it was the 'Best SFX'. 😄

Day 10 - Least Favourite ~~Episode~~ Book

That would be Sorcerer's Moon, the third book of The Boreal Moon trilogy. In my previous entry I mentioned I disliked this trilogy the most, unfortunately. I did decide to read all three books in case it improved, but unfortunately in the final book, **spoilers** the one character who I was starting to follow got killed off in the middle of the book. 💀💀

When I got to the end, I had no desire to ever read them again. Which is a shame, as Julian on the whole was a very good writer but from my POV her writing career ended not with a bang, but with a whimper.

Day 9 - Least Favourite Series

The Boreal Moon trilogy (fantasy). It was the last series that Julian wrote and I struggled with reading it, I just could not connect with it or the characters, really. I only read the books once and then never again. They aren't on my bookshelf with the rest of her novels. Sorry.
