Coming back to the theme of mountains in Stephen's art representing people, I'll talk about the cover of 'Diamond Mask'.

This story focusses on how Dorothea Macdonald and Jack Remillard met. On the cover we have a matched pair of mountains, grand but approachable. If you look at the very top of both, you see the suggestion of a seated figure. The lighting is nice and a mountain climber might think 'I could climb those and live to tell the tale'.

The winged figure hatching from an egg in an actual fire (whut?) is Marc. No real surprises there. Someone in the series compares Marc to an eagle that Teresa unexpectedly hatched, who she wasn't quite sure what to do with. He is also the Ugly Duckling, who will have to travel a long way in space and time to be a swan (a black and white one - see the reference to one at the end of 'Adversary' after the dust has settled).

In the background is Dorothea, with four stars and a diamond hovering in the air. I think this is a referral to the Quincux, the five Lylmik who rule the Galactic Milieu. Their leader is Marc / Unifex who Patricia Castellane in 'Adversary' observed he had a 'diamond hard' mental shield.
