The Exiles / Milieu podcast continues* with a review of 'Magnificat', the last book in the Galactic Milieu trilogy about this 'magnificent family of weirdo psychic Kennedy's (in space)'. :D

They make a good point that Maddie could have been a better villain... and that it could have been Fury that gave Marc a body-horror complex from a young age.

Best lines:

"It's not all about you, Hagen!"
"Marc just wants to be left alone with his Radio Shack toys"

*There's going to be one more episode that will look back at the nine-book series as a whole. Sounds good!

The Exiles / Milieu podcast continues with 'Diamond Mask', the second book of the Galactic Milieu trilogy. The tagline for this book is 'psychic Kennedy's in space!'. There's reference to the infamous final line of this book which is really right up there with 'I am your father' from the Star Wars films. Brr.

One thing I liked about this book is how Unifex accidentally ended up being Dorothea's teacher, Obi-wan style. He hadn't really foreseen this at all and his other / younger self had had no memories of it. But then, Dorothea considered Marc 'warped' and a good candidate for being Fury, the mysterious serial killer of the series. She had no reason to tell him about her mysterious teacher.

A new fan art site has been found in the wild - give it some love.

The Exiles / Milieu podcast continues with looking at the first book of the Galactic Milieu trilogy, 'Jack the Bodiless' which asks the question 'what if the Kennedy's, but psychic?'

Also if they were French-Canadian and lived in New Hampshire. The narrator, Uncle Rogi, is the black sheep for running his own sci-fi / fantasy bookshop with cat.

From @mbtipage comes the easy way to find out what Myers-Brigg (sp?) personality you are.

On this basis, Marc is an ISTJ. Aiken is an ESTP, I think. Elizabeth could be an INFJ.

The Saga of Rereading Epics have posted their latest podcast about the Exiles / Milieu series, 'The Metaconcert'. Uncle Rogi continues to be a 'lovely old crank'. The podcast did remind me that things got a little grimdark at times for some characters in this book. The author has a way of pulling the carpet from under you with her final sentences of her books too. I always remember the horror I felt reading the last sentence of 'Diamond Mask' (the second book of the Galactic Milieu trilogy).

I did like it when Unifex disguised himself as someone a bit similar to Uncle Rogi in order to get close to the villain as a 'trusted' associate. Heh.

A time travel TV show that fans of Julian May might like is one called 'Beforeigners' - a police procedural produced by HBO Europe (which I don't have, boo) set in Norway. It's about people from ancient Norway popping up in the present and learning how to get along with others (or not?). There's only one season so far but there's plans for a second one.

The Saga of Re-Reading Epics have posted their latest podcast about the Exiles / Milieu series - 'The Surveillance' which jumps forward in time from prehistoric Europe to post-1945 America. We get to meet Uncle Rogi, hooray! He runs a sci-fi bookshop with obligatory cat, which sounds great to me. The narrators have a soft spot for him too (they call him a 'cantankerous delight').

There was once fan art of his bookstore on the interwebs once, but the website has long gone (sigh). I should have kept a copy of said art.

When I read this book, it was bundled with the sequel, 'The Metaconcert' and called 'Intervention'.

Over at Tor.com, in an article called 'Five Possible Reasons We Haven't Been Contacted by Aliens Yet', they mention the Saga of the Exiles with its explanation of 'yes, we've been visited by aliens, but it happened six million years ago in Pliocene Europe and all traces are long gone in the modern era' *

The Saga of Rereading Epics have posted their latest podcast episode about the last book of 'The Saga of the Exiles';  'The Adversary'.

Apparently, Julian May (mostly) got the ending right. BUT (sigh) the wimmen all like to be dominated. Apart from Katlinel. Argh. Nope.

The Saga of Rereading Epics continue their podcasts, with the latest episode about 'The Non Born King', book 3 of the Saga of the Exiles.

One main highlight - the hosts insist there was hardly any warning about supervillain Marc Remillard and his posse of fellow supervillains popping up in this book... when in fact there had been lots of hints dropped in book one. Hmm.

There is a new podcast by Pod Culture (Oz) that talks about the various science fiction books / TV / movies that have been influenced by the works of Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, a Jesuit Priest who talked about the World Mind and where humanity was ultimately going.

Julian May's Exiles / Galactic Milieu books were influenced by his works and are referred to in the podcast.

The Saga of Rereading Epics continue their podcast reviews of the Exiles / Milieu series, with the latest episode this month focusing on 'The Many Coloured Land'. I'm enjoying this series so far.

Highlights include:

- Aiken Drum is Chaotic Neutral (yep!).

- Imagine the Tanu as looking a bit like Orlando Bloom from Lord of the Rings but he's 7 foot tall(!). Lee Pace would also be Tanu-like.

- Bryan leaving his cushy job to follow Mercy through the time gate into the deep past (who had only viewed him as a temporary 'friend with benefits') seems romantic when you're a teenager reading this, but creepier when you're older and reading this. Good point.
