Captain Marvel

I recently found a good article about Tricksters  (Aiken Drum being a good example from the Exiles books).

I'm thinking of going to the movie 'Captain Marvel' sometime soon.

Actually, the first time I saw a reference to CM was years ago when I first read 'Jack the Bodiless'. When Marc starts college, some of the other students realise he's a powerful telepath (psi powers are a Thing in 21st century society by then) and say, 'ooh, Captain Marvel comes to Animal House!'.

This being the late '90's in New Zealand, I had no idea who CM was. I had heard of Captain America, but that was different. There was no Google to find out more, so I shrugged and put it to one side. Then when I heard of the CM movie some time ago, I thought, oh, that's the name Marc was called. Hmm.

I think the first Captain Marvel was an alien (male) sent to Earth to observe us lower lifeforms in development, so I got that part of the reference, but I had no idea what Animal House was - maybe something to do with Animal Crackers? (thought I).

Comics are weird. I'm happy they picked Carol's Captain Marvel to make a movie about, though - from what I hear, it's pretty fun.

That makes sense - Marc definitely had that 'people are lower lifeforms' thing going on.

Ha, yes! I don't remember the exact quote, but I think one of his student-friends introduced him as 'don't worry - he seems shy, but he's just arrogant'.

I laughed at that line. Julian always had humour in her books. :)
