Hooray, there's been an update from Nick Dudman's Production Hell re televising the Saga of the Exiles:


To update those keeping tabs; Exiles is progressing…screenwriter onboard…discussions ongoing…a long, slow process! We are determined that this will be faithful to the books, that’s what I promised Julian…and that means it all takes time….so many people want to turn it into something else, usually something we’ve all already seen…so lots of false starts as is often the case…I hope to have more detail later this year…


So, it sounds like poor Nick is mud-wrestling with clueless execs who say things like, 'hey, let's have the main cast as teenagers!1!'

I would 100% watch a show about Marc & little Jack having adventures while also attending college and, I dunno, dropping by The Eloquent Page every once in a while but ... teenage!Aiken and teenage!Elizabeth don't sound like great ideas.

(Cloud and Hagen and the rest of the second generation of Rebels might-slash-would-probably qualify as teenagers but that would feel like skipping a ton of good stuff.)

Hee! I was thinking of execs arguing that Amerie and Claude should be teenagers. Which... no. Although there is fan art of Claude over on Deviant Art com with Nathan Fillion as Claude, and I went 'new headcanon accepted'. :D

I would also 100% watch a show about Marc and little Jack having adventures (with lots of shots of Marc on his motorbike). Someone looking Sam Elliot-ish as Uncle Rogi at The Eloquent Page.

I think Aiken is in his early 20's and the show would need to reflect that. I also think that mid-40's Elizabeth was rejuvenated to her 20's, which was why the Tanu saw her as their hot property or a threat.

I know I couldn't accept Cloud, Hagen etc as teenagers either...

A Sam Elliot-ish Uncle Rogi sounds like a fine thing, indeed. As do plenty of Marc-on-his-bike shots!

The whole rejuvenation thing had sort of slipped my mind [when considering casting] but that does sound like a unique-ish casting complication.

I know I couldn't accept Cloud, Hagen etc as teenagers either...

I'm picturing the pitch as: 'like The 100, but with time travel! and most of their parents kind of suck, which will make the characters extra relatable to real teenagers, and also one of the kids has got two moms, and there's a lot of angst'.

I think people could relate to Cloud, Hagen etc rebelling against evil-ish parents and wanting their own lives. There's a show called 'Runaways' based on something similar (a group of teenagers discover their parents are supervillains). I haven't seen it though.

Yes, you would need a good actress to portray Elizabeth as an 'older woman back in her younger body'. With lots of angst.
