Silmarillion references in the Saga?
Sep. 18th, 2025 08:56 pmSince the Exiles books are set in a warped version of Middle Earth, it's not surprising that the Big Bad, Marc, is a bit Sauron-coded. Wanted to dominate everything, immortal, acquires some gold jewellery at one point and wears different Fair Forms so to speak in the later books.
I've never read The Simarillon and wasn't really aware of it until I started watching The Rings of Power. Then I started realising that Marc is a bit Melkor-coded too, the destroying fallen angel. Melkor ends up in The Void and I remember the section where Hagen has a vision of his father Marc ending up in the void - of space.
"His mind opened, showing a black thing roughly humanoid in shape, self-contained, armoured against the world, divorced from its unnecessary body, its ultrasenses prowling the galaxy in a never-ending search for other minds like itself - and finding none, resolving to make such minds."
Brr.
Was Elizabeth's character inspired by the beautiful Luthien? There's a scene where she (bravely) dances for Melkor. I could make the case that this scene is inversed in 'Adversary' where Marc sees Elizabeth dancing with Aiken. Enchanted despite himself, he butts in so Elizabeth finds herself dancing with him, to her surprise.
Please let me in.

Hard to Finish
Date: 2025-10-08 04:51 pm (UTC)The Milieu series is more somber and contemplative, but well worth the effort.
I found two references to Rampart Worlds this time! I had no idea they "shared a universe." :-)
Thanks for all your efforts,
It truly saddens me that there seem to be so few enjoying these great books.

Parallels
Date: 2025-10-09 06:44 pm (UTC)It's rather hard to ignore scandalous parallels between one copulative "Billionaire Tech Bro," and a certain Mental Man progenitor...
Zoiks!
